Family Tables Gallery II

Instructions for a Personal Albums - Available to All Forum Members

Welcome to the Family Tables Gallery II. You can have your own Album in the Gallery which any visitor can see in the Gallery II page. This system has many features including a user administration section. This is a special area for the owner of the album to control his own album.

When you take an album, you get a folder in the Gallery section. The form defaults to your screen name but you can rename the folder. If your use your forum screen name, visitors can associate your forum posts with your pictures but you can use any name you like. Below is an example of the structure of the Gallery. Each user's album is a separate folder. You will have your own photo space on Family Tables.

Gallery Organization

There are a few things to learn to effectively use this system. The term "album" refers to a specific group of images contained in a folder on the web site. The term "Gallery" refers to the collection of all the albums, both general and user albums. Each personal album has a "control panel" which is called your "administration" section. This feature allows you full control of your personal album. Here is how you get there:

  • 1. Use the link on the lower part of the front page (not the button at the top) so the Gallery will come up in full screen mode.

  • front page

  • 2. Then hit the "tab" key on your keyboard. You should see this:
  • Login Screen
    Login Screen

  • 3.Read the instructions when you get an album for the temporary usersame and password to access your album the first time.
  • 4. Hit "submit" after filling in the username and password. You should see this:
  • Admistration Control Panel
    Album Control Panel

These are the two starting images. Replace with your own images.

    Sample Art
    Sample.png
    104px wide x 135px high
    Index Icon
    index.jpg
    160px wide x 92px high

The album software displays numbered images first, then alphabet order after that. If you want your images in a certain order, then number them before the name. Example: 01_my_photo.jpg, 02_my_nextphoto.jpg, 03_my_otherphoto.jpg and so on. Notice how I used the "underline" character. That is not an accident or oversight. The web server gets along much better using underlines instead of spaces in file names.

Also, DO NOT USE QUOTES MARKS in your file names. Do not use either single or double quotes. These have special meanings on servers. [Most web servers do not run Microsoft Windows systems!]

In your control panel, delete the "Sample.png". The "index.png" is a special case. Don't delete it untill you decide on an image order for your pictures or decide to have a new "index" image.

The "index.jpg" is a special image name that the Gallery will use as your personal album icon but the album software will not display it in your album. You do not need it. The album software will use the first image in numeric-alphabet list for the icon but it will also display it in your album. If you use an "index.jpg," it needs to be sized small. It should be sized to about 160 pixels wide. Horizontal (wider than tall) images work best. (see the size in the image above.)

Now you are ready to start filling up your album with your own photos. The software can resize your photos to a proper size but if you upload too large an image, it may have trouble resizing. To work with the album, you should learn how to use a photo editor. There are many free editors on the Internet. The best one are call Pixel and GIMP.

Please Take Note: (This applies to the Friend Finder albums also.)
Instead of a full photo editor, you can use a simple photo resizing utility. We have provided a Windows utility called "PIXresizer" if you don't have one. Just click on this link: CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD PIXresizer Your download should start automatically. The file is in ZIP format. Most of you can just double click the icon and follow the extract intructions, then double click the installer icon to install.

    LEGAL ADVICE FROM HEADQUARTERS:
You should have written or verbal permission to post photos of people and property. Just because you have the photo, doesn't mean that you can do anything you want with it. Be Wise.
